Too Many Cooks
Thesis project for the School of Visual Arts' Illustration as Visual Essay MFA Program.
Illustrations are usually paired with writing. The counterpoint between the two often hinges less on the overlapping content but relies on their differences. Drawing attention to what each says that the other cannot.
In making a portfolio with only images I hope each image will remain open to the stories brought to it by the viewer but evoke the underlying content of the project.
It is when all the images are placed together that they begin to have conversations with one another.
This group of illustrations was made to address the growing imbalance in a world dominated by humans and the issues surrounding the problematic inefficiency and byproducts of the human systems that support our ever growing numbers.
Our impact on the world is snowballing.
I hope this project will get viewers to look beyond their immediate storyline and lend a hand in steering out collective story in a direction of sustainability and balance.
